Dry Fly - F-Dun CDC Pale Olive - Ignita / Baetis
The F-Dun CDC Pale Olive is a dry fly with an olive body ribbed with yellow, fitted with a CDC wing. Its slim, airy tying style is especially well suited to fussy fish in slow currents, glides and calm water.
Inspired by Marjan Fratnik's F-Fly, this version combines tail, legs, a dubbing thorax and a silk body. The overall profile creates a detailed silhouette without excessive bulk.
Which mayflies does it imitate?
It imitates mayflies at the subimago stage, just after emergence, when their wings are upright and still dull. In particular, it can represent Ephemerella ignita (now known as Serratella ignita, the blue-winged olive) and certain Baetis, such as Baetis rhodani (large dark olive) or Baetis scambus (small dark olive).
These matches depend on the size and shade of the insects present. Observe the mayflies on the surface to choose the closest imitation.
Key strengths
- Slim, airy tying style: useful when fish refuse overly bulky imitations.
- CDC wing: gives the fly a supple, lightweight silhouette.
- Fasna F-100 hook: a barbless dry fly model chosen for its balance of strength and lightness.
Fishing tip
Use it on rising fish during olive mayfly hatches. On calm stretches, take extra care with your approach and aim for a drag-free drift: fish have time to inspect every fly.

La Fine Mouche's verdict: a fly to keep close at hand for delicate rises on glides. We like its balance between a well-defined body and a light wing, making it an appealing alternative to fuller dressings.
