The olive-bodied Fratnik is a minimalist CDC dry fly, designed to imitate a small mayfly, an emerger, or more broadly a subtle insect sitting in the surface film.

Created by Marjan Fratnic, the Fratnik, also known as the F-Fly, has become a major European classic for technical dry fly fishing. Its principle is simple: few materials, a very natural silhouette, and a subtle presentation to fool difficult fish.

Its simple, very clean dressing gives it a low, light, natural profile on the water. The olive colour is especially versatile on clear water, slow to medium currents, and wary fish that refuse overly visible flies.

This fly performs best with a long leader and fine tippet for a delicate presentation. It is highly effective on subtle rises from trout and grayling, especially when fish are carefully selecting their prey.
