CDC Black Midge Dry Fly - Small Insects
The CDC Black Midge is a small, discreet dry fly designed to imitate gnats, midges and other small insects.
Its dark, lightweight tying, combined with CDC, gives it a natural silhouette and excellent presentation. CDC fibers provide movement and buoyancy while allowing the fly to land subtly on the water.
Tied on a size 16, 18 or 20 hook, this imitation is especially effective when fish are feeding on very small insects on the surface and become selective. It can be used both in rivers and on lakes or stillwaters, with a drag-free drift and fine tippets.
When should you use the CDC Black Midge?
- Small insects present: when gnats and other small insects are visible on the surface.
- Selective fish: its small size and subtle silhouette allow for a low-profile presentation.
- Calm areas: slow currents, margins, flats, smooth glides and lake or stillwater surfaces.
- Drag-free drift: present it without drag using a fine tippet suited to the size of the fly.
