Guideline Classic Trout WF Intermediate fly line
The Guideline Classic Trout WF Intermediate is a great fly line for fishing just under the surface, where many fish actually move. Its intermediate density allows it to sink slowly. The WF (Weight Forward) taper makes casting easy and loads the rod effortlessly. It is highly versatile for trout in lakes, reservoirs and shallow areas.
On paper, it can be described as a fast intermediate line, with a stated sink rate of 3.8 cm/s. But in practice, after a few tests, the descent felt more progressive and slower: I would classify it more as a medium intermediate.
Density and sink rate
| Version | Sink rate | |
|---|---|---|
| Intermediate / Int | 1.5 ips ( 3.8 cm/s) | Relatively slow, steady sink: ideal for fishing subsurface and controlling depth with the pause time and the retrieve. |
Recommended uses
- Lake / reservoir: subtle subsurface fishing, chironomids / nymphs, streamers, washing line, slow retrieves or strips.
- Windy conditions: better line control than a floating line, more direct contact.
Key strengths
- Versatile WF taper: quick, easy rod loading.
- Smooth, supple coating: good shoot through the guides and a pleasant feel while fishing.
- Low-stretch core ( 6%): better bite detection and more direct hook sets.
- Welded loops at both ends: quick rigging, easier leader changes and backing connection.
- ID marking on the front loop: precise model identification (e.g. Classic Trout / WF6 / INT).
- Phthalate-free (100%).
Specifications
- Head length: 12.0 m
- Total length: 27.5 m
- Head weight: #5 = 14 g / #6 = 16 g / #7 = 18 g / #8 = 20 g
Value for money
The Classic Trout WF Intermediate offers outstanding value for money: useful features (loops, marking), very versatile performance, low stretch and solid results, without stepping up to "premium" pricing.
