Italian Sedge
Dry Fly: Italian Sedge
The "Italian Sedge" is a dry fly that is both highly buoyant and easy to see. Its wing is made from pheasant feather and chamois hair, while the twisted deer-ear hair body and the deer-hair parachute hackle provide excellent flotation. The red polystyrene bead boosts both visibility and buoyancy on the water.
Tie it on a size 12 or 14 dry-fly hook, such as the Hanak H130BL.
As is often the case, it is best to use a very fine tying thread for this type of fly, which is heavy on materials. A 14/0 or 16/0 thread, or even finer, will help achieve a clean, well-balanced tie.
