Blob: Candy Floss

The "Candy Floss" Blob is a flashy, irresistible fly for stillwater fly fishing. Its ultra-fine fibres and generous profile make it a top attractor pattern, ideal for triggering trout curiosity and aggression, especially in cold or slightly coloured water.

You can tie this pattern in a range of colours. I especially like the following shades: Fluo Fuchsia, Fluo Pink, Fluo Light Pink and Fluo Light Orange.

Use a tungsten bead of at least 2.5 mm, ideally 2.8 mm to 3 mm for "pompon" fishing. Do not hesitate to experiment with different bead colours.

This fly is quick and easy to tie:

• Secure the chenille with your tying thread near the bend of the hook.
• Make around five wraps of chenille up to the bead, making sure to sweep the fibres back on each turn.
• Finish with a whip finish.

Important: once the fly is finished, brush the fibres thoroughly with a scratch-style brush for at least 30 seconds. This is what creates the signature "Candy Floss" effect - soft, airy and ultra-attractive - and it makes all the difference.
